Why some arcade games just feel right

Ask anyone about a great arcade game and they'll say it 'feels good,' but rarely explain why. Most of the time it comes down to responsiveness: the shorter the delay between your tap and what happens, the better.

Neon Drift Rally is a good example. Holding to drift and releasing to straighten out has almost no lag, so chaining corners feels like an extension of your hand rather than a request the game might get to eventually.

Sound and animation matter too. A satisfying little effect when you nail a move tricks your brain into wanting the next one. That's the whole loop of a good arcade title.

When a game feels floaty or delayed, no amount of flashy visuals will save it. Feel first, everything else second.
